The Matrix and Key Features

by John Creighton

In the text publication of Chapter 3 it was stated that the extensive robbing and ploughing had done much to level standing structures and to destroy the stratigraphy of the site. Indeed, it will be clear from the foregoing structural report that to the south of the southern limit of the P7 "public building" square everything has been destroyed down to below P7 foundation levels, while to the north of this line there remain badly damaged structures of P8 and 9. This meant that the phase by phase description of the site provided above was "constructed" from detailed analyses of ten discrete areas, labelled A-J for convenience. Consequently, rather than provide an overall phase by phase matrix, what follows is an area by area matrix which should be referenced to the accompanying list of phase-by-phase key elements and area by area site plans with spot heights.
